Analisis Kerusakan Crankpin Bearing pada Motor Diesel Generator di MV. CM Laurencia

This study investigates the crank pin bearing failure of the diesel generator engine aboard MV. CM Laurencia, which led to a blackout during cargo operations. The failure was indicated by reduced lubricating oil pressure, rising oil temperature, abnormal vibrations, and decreased generator output. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied through direct observation during sea practice, interviews with engine crew, and documentation review. The findings reveal that the primary cause was ineffective lubrication due to clogged oil filters containing metal particles, thermal degradation of oil, and delayed maintenance. The bearing experienced wear exceeding tolerance, with a clearance deviation of 0.3 mm versus the standard 0.10-0.12 mm. This resulted in crankshaft imbalance, combustion disruptions, decreased thermal efficiency, and higher fuel consumption. The study recommends implementing running-hour-based maintenance, timely oil and filter replacement, and real-time monitoring of oil parameters to prevent similar failures, aiming to improve crew awareness and technical competence in maintaining diesel generator components..
