Coal loading operations on bulk carrier vessels depend heavily on the reliability of hydraulic systems and loading equipment to maintain operational continuity and safety. This study aims to examine the condition of hydraulic pipes and the application of Safe Working Load (SWL) in supporting efficient coal loading activities aboard MV. Sami. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through direct onboard observation, interviews with Chief Officer, Boatswan, Able Seaman, Operation Crane, and operational documentation during sea practice. The results indicate that deterioration and leakage in hydraulic pipes, primarily caused by corrosion and insufficient maintenance, significantly reduced hydraulic system performance by lowering fluid pressure, which delayed hatch cover operations and disrupted loading efficiency. In addition, proper implementation of SWL played a crucial role in maintaining safe crane operations and minimizing operational risks, although equipment damage was still identified due to technical and maintenance-related factors. The study concludes that effective hydraulic maintenance and consistent adherence to SWL standards are essential in ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted coal loading processes on bulk carrier vessels.
