Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of cargo hold tightness and bucket elevator overheating on the urea discharging process aboard MV. Mochtar Prabu Mangkunegara. Maintaining cargo hold tightness and ensuring the optimal performance of the bucket elevator are essential to preserve cargo quality, improve operational efficiency, and prevent delays during unloading. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. Primary data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 26 crew members involved in cargo handling operations, while secondary data were obtained from ship documents and relevant literature. The data were analyzed using validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, t-test, F-test, and the coefficient of determination (R²) with SPSS software. The results indicate that cargo hold tightness has a positive and significant effect on the urea discharging process. Likewise, bucket elevator overheating has a significant positive effect on unloading performance. Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence the effectiveness of the urea discharging process with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 67.7%, while the remaining 32.3% is explained by other factors outside the research model. These findings emphasize the importance of preventive maintenance and regular inspection to improve cargo handling performance and operational efficiency.
