Abstract

Maritime transport is cost-effective as it can carry large amounts of cargo. The reliability of ship engines, including the quality of the fuel used, is crucial. Fuel oil purifiers play a vital role in purifying fuel from water and contaminants. Issues on the MV Sinar Kintamani involve reduced purifier efficiency due to poor bowl cleanliness and suboptimal rotation, affecting fuel consumption and engine performance. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the performance of the fuel oil purifier on the MV Sinar Kintamani. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach to examine the purifier's performance, gathering data through observation, interviews, and maintenance document analysis. The primary focus is on identifying issues related to bowl cleanliness and rotation that impact fuel quality. The goal is to provide practical solutions to improve purifier efficiency and operation. The study was conducted on the MV Sinar Kintamani, focusing on the performance of the MITSUBISHI SJ-10 G fuel oil purifier. It was carried out over one year (March 2023 - March 2024) during the researcher’s sea training. Data were collected through direct observation and interviews with ship engineers. Results indicate frequent issues such as overflow during operation, contamination in the Bowl Purifier and Disc Bowl, and rotation disturbances in the Bowl Purifier. These problems hinder optimal fuel purification and disrupt ship operations.
